Police Equipment Reviews had the opportunity to speak to some SWAT officers last week at training and poke their brains as what they thought we were some important pieces of SWAT gear. SWAT gear isn’t always the same as regular police gear. SWAT gear is typically more tactical and durable. Thanks to my “SWAT” friends for these recommendations.
Tactical leg holster- Anybody that has worn a raid vest knows that it is very difficult to wear a standard gun holster. SWAT officers almost always wear tactical leg holsters manufactured by Safariland or BlackHawk. This drops the gun down further on their thigh and makes it more accessible.
Tactical flashlight- SWAT officers don’t always have the room to carry full sized flashlights. That’s why tactical flashlights are so popular. Surefire makes some great tactical flashlights and we can’t forget the Streamlight tactical flashlights.
Hydration systems- Are you serious??? Police Equipment Reviews used to think these were only used as camping gear till we had to sit at a scene for 8 hours. It can get hot out there and if you are out there for any length of time you should have some liquids available to you.
Binoculars- Optics can be very useful in seeing the suspect. Don’t settle for a cheap pair. They are going to get beat around and need to be durable. Check out the Brunton binoculars or Bushnell binoculars. Both are very good and reliable.
We hope this short article on SWAT gear was useful for you. If you are interested in any of these police gear items, head down to your local police supply store and take a look.
